Methods II: Week 14: Last blog!
What did we do in lab this week?
In lab we started off by talking about the interviews we did with our elders. Then we took a look at some CO2 data which showed that the amount of CO2 has been increasing over time. We watched a video about the science of climate change which discussed 3 factors that drive climate change: solar radiation, albedo, and the atmosphere. Mainly, the greenhouse gases are impacting the atmosphere which affects our climate the most.
What was the big question?
How does climate change happen? What factors affect climate change?
What did we learn in Thursday's discussion?
We continued our conversation about the impacts of climate change. This included the current high levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, effects on albedo and albedo's effects on climate change, and some of the things we can do to lower our carbon footprint including solar panels.
This week's reading: Chapters 22 and 23
- I learned: I didn't know that water vapor was a greenhouse gas and contributed to climate change. I thought that since it is just water, it was harmless for the environment. But now I know that water vapor traps heat and warms our earth.
- I found helpful: The interconnections/positive feedback loops of the different factors that encourage climate change show how a lot of the factors increase other factors that all lead to climate change which shows the extreme need for action right away.
- I need more info on: What is the jet stream and how does it work?
